This unusual image was taken at the Ringling Museum in Sarasota, Florida. A historic statue has been taken over by roots of a banyan tree. John Ringling was one of the brothers who owned and operated the circus called, "The Greatest Show on Earth". John and his wife Mable purchased the 66 acres of this waterfront property in 1912. The following year Mable started building a garden with exotic trees and plants that she collected. There were 14 banyan trees, the largest collection in Florida. The gardens had beautiful sculptures all throughout its design. Banyan tree roots grow vertically down from its branches, and when they touch the ground they grow across the land, spreading over a large area. After growing for a century, I am not surprised a banyan tree has grown over this statue. I could almost hear the statue saying, "Help me!".
